Poker Pot Odds In 2021 (+EXAMPLES) | SplitSuit

What the heck does 2:1 or 3.5:1 even mean!? These are examples of pot odds, which are the lifeblood of making good poker decisions when facing bets and raises. In this video, you'll learn what pot odds are, why they are important, see some examples putting pot odds to use, and get some simple numbers to memorize that will help you in the future.

When you see a pot odds ratio, such as 3:1, you see your risk (what you need to call) on the right and your reward (the pot + your opponent's bet) on the left. From this ratio, you get your equity requirement by the simple formula:

= Risk / (Risk+Reward)

So 3:1 pot odds have a 25% equity requirement by taking 1/(1+3). If your actual chance of winning the hand is higher than the equity requirement, you continue. Otherwise, you should look to things like implied odds.

Don't let these numbers scare you. Poker math is graspable with a little time and effort. And since poker is a game of math at the end of the day - your effort has serious upside potential!
