Intermezzo means interlude. This particular intermezzo is composed by the Spanish composer Granados and is subtitled "The Young Lovers." It is a piece played by instruments only between the second and third scenes of the one-act, three-scene opera "Goyescas." It seems that the outline of the opera, such as the young people dancing, the jealousy and conflict between the two lovers, the duel, and the tragic ending, is confined in this short piece. It has gained more popularity than the opera itself.

インテルメッツォとは間奏曲という意味です。スペインの作曲家グラナドスの「恋する若者たち」という副題が付けられた、一幕三景からなるオベラ「ゴイェスカス」の二幕と三幕の間に楽器だけで演奏される曲です。若者たちの踊る様子や、二組の恋人たちの嫉妬や悶着、決闘、そして悲劇的な結末という、オペラのあらすじを短い曲に閉じ込めてあるようです。オペラ本体より人気を博した曲です。　（はるか：小野瀬博司、柏田和美）
