10 Shocking Electricity Facts

1. The electric battery, which uses two different types of metal to create a continuous current, was invented in 1800 by Italian scientist Alessandro Volta.

2. In the United States, the odds of being struck by lightning are roughly 1 in 750,000.
3. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, published a treatise in 1759 advocating the medical use of electricity. Wesley himself regularly electrified participants at the Methodist church headquarters.
