Kyle Health Update
My previous whole body MRI scan revealed that I had cancer (Hodgkin Lymphoma). After my interview with @peterattiamd about cancer screening we received a lot of questions about MRI so here’s an update:
After 5 months of chemotherapy I’m in remission and feeling good. Due to my treatment, I’m at a little higher risk of secondary cancer (other types of cancer) and I plan to get whole body MRI every year or two to help monitor.
Whole body MRI is currently an out of pocket expense (not covered by insurance). For me it is worth budgeting for as it does not emit radiation (a carcinogen) and the diffusion weighted image technology utilized by @prenuvo is very good at detecting many types of cancer in early stages when they’re more amenable to treatment.
The scan took an hour (enough for two Seinfeld episodes on their mirrored tv screen in the MRI!) and results take about 10 days and are read by a radiologist.
I am thankful for this technology. I hope momentum continues to build for it to be covered by insurance so it is more widely accessible.
