Erik Tuxen, Uhu Uhu - Hvad er det med Juliane. Copenhagen 1935
The Erik Tuxen Orchestra was without doubt the best jazz and dance band in Denmark during the 1930'es. Tuxen formed the band in august 1932 and disbanded around september 1936. During this period the orchestra recorded around 250 sides for the Polyphon label but only about 50 are of interest for the hot-dance and swing fan.
The Tuxen orchestra is known as the "bandleaders band" because seven of the musicians, Kai Ewans, Leo Mathisen, Kaj Møller, Winstrup Olesen, Peter Rasmussen, Berthel Skjoldborg and Axel Skouby, later became bandleaders themselves.
This tune was composed by the vocalist on the record, Victor Cornelius. Cornelius was the danish Chick Bullock or Al Bowlly and recorded hundreds of records from the early 20'es and into the vinyl era. He was a pianist, singer, composer and actor and my personal favorit when it comes to danish vocalists from the past.
