Sanctum's Optional Character Intrigues! #short
Want to hear more details about SANCTUM?! Watch this https://youtu.be/rgQ9nayOmY0
I am making a tabletop game. It has come a LONG way, with many iterations and revisions. I have focused on simplicity and taking things in new directions to give the game a unique feel, while maximising fun! Sanctum isn't just another d20 + class clone, it's been designed to be different in all the ways to make it focus on...
SIMPLICITY: Rolling, skills, and character creation/customisation has been seamlessly integrated with one another to ensure that making a character and playing the game is super simple and super fun!
CUSTOMISATION: A core aspect of this game is customisation, and making characters that are constructed entirely by you in a simple system of combining a few features. The possible character builds are so expansive, which is increased ever further by the number of optional character options, such as religion, intrigues, and transformations!
GEAR: My aim is to make a system where players don't get bored solving every single problem with one of their many superpowers. Your gear is supposed to matter! Each weapon is significantly different! You can change a character's entire build by choosing a different weapon. Every piece of equipment has a significant use, from the weapons, to the armor, to the adventuring gear!
MAGIC: The spell system has been changed to focus on risk, reward, and making magic arcane & strange! It removes the reliance on the usual spell slots or mana points arrangement, and instead allows for casters to choose how far they want to push their magic at the risk of dangerous results! Magic is arcane and strange, and can be refined by the casters to allow them to specialise in a specific form of magic.
ANCESTRY: I want you to be able to play the character of your dreams. Each ancestry allow you to choose one of four variants on the ancestry and play a wide range of fantasy characters. You can play the usual human, fey, or dwarf, OR you could play an Awakened (animated item), Mordus (a slimey boi that could be a mimic), or Wildkin (animal person of many kinds)!
WHAT I DIDN'T MENTION IN THE VIDEO: I have made even more that was not mentioned in the video! Like a whole system for travel that ALSO involves the players choosing whether they want to take the easy route OR the more treacherous route to find more treacherous, but rewarding, findings!
There is also a mechanic for running dungeons so there is a tension behind every action. I don't want dungeons in Sanctum to be these boring struts through an area that may as well not be in a dungeon! Instead, dungeons are a place where time is constantly against you, and each move you make may call more trouble to survive from within the dungeon!
ALSO, the way Enemies works means that GMs can run many enemies or a single enemy and find it incredibly simple and speedy! The list of enemies includes the usual fantasy entities AND a new blend of cryptids and cosmic horrors to accompany the strange cosmology of the system's lore!
I really hope this interests people, because with each addition to my system, and each refinement on its workings, I can see this becoming something super fun for players and GMs to experience!
