Rumours of Fleetwood Mac: The Lindsey VS Stevie Story | #1 In Our Heart | Professor of Rock

For Lindsey Buckingham, who was struggling with the agony of breaking up with Stevie Nicks, he transported his being into writing a song titled “Go Your Own Way.”It is well known that Lindsey & Stevie were lovers, as well as bandmates while they were both members of the supergroup Fleetwood Mac. But, by the time Fleetwood Mac began to record their 11th studio album Rumours, Stevie & Lindsey were in the middle of a complicated breakup. Which along with several other breakups, defines the sound of their greatest album “Rumours” This is the story of that moment in time.

It’s time for another edition of #1 in our hearts where we discuss a classic song that should’ve been number one on the billboard charts but didn’t make it there, and most are shocked when they hear it.

MY own feelings about Go Your Own Way. If you listen to it carefully, to me it’s alway been the most bitter, scathing and spiteful rock songs in the rock music cannon. It’s a scorned lover giving the other big old middle finger. Ya exactly it’s the foremost middle finger love song. Can you ever hear it in the chorus. Lindsay’s tone is overwhelmingly caustic. You can understand why it was difficult for Stevie to sing live. In the timber of Lindsay’s guttural, veins popping out of neck, desperate yet determined vocal, the words are certainly daggers aimed with precision. The bitterness is even more haunting than Sting’s obsessive controlling tone in Every Breath You Take that would come a few years later. Go you own way is pretty hard core if you really read between the lines, but is somewhat misunderstood by listeners because of the catchy and melodic chorus it’s a little bit camouflaged.

Christine McVie calls “Go Your Own Way” the best song Lindsey Buckingham has ever written. I conclusion, though it’s a song that vaguely camouflages spite and bitterness, the master recording of this song stands above all of that, It’s the symbol of a band, that despite all of the infighting drama and strife, it’s the strong creative connection that fuels a perfect rock song and a song that is #1 in OUR hearts.
