But the moment Cynthia learned what her son had done — trading another life for hers — she rejected him completely. Her own son. In Hell. And her soul turned to stone in grief. But because she rejected the deal herself her soul became pure — and even Mephisto could not hold her anymore. She ascended to Heaven on her own goodness alone. And the comic's final line reads — a soul long in torment has found her salvation. And Doom lives on with the triumph and torment of his own.
