2020 Bordeaux Vintage Report

We’ve been lucky enough to have received over 140 samples of 2020 Bordeaux and have been doing much research here at the shop. 2020 looks to be another exciting vintage and much different in style than 2018 or 2019. Generally we’ve found that the merlot based wines have really excelled and it’s a vintage of high tannin and low alcohol. There is real potential for some epic wines from both banks, and if you are a St. Emilion and Pomerol fan, this might be a “back up the truck” vintage! We’ve seen the release of Cheval Blanc, Leoville Barton, Pavie, and Angelus as well as the always beloved Branaire Ducru and Lafon Rochet. Laroque and Tour St. Christophe are here as well and both have proven to be wines that always sell out before arriving. We were lucky enough to taste Angelus on a zoom call with owner Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal and we can confirm that it’s one of the wines of the vintage and maybe one of the best Angelus ever!
