SPACE: 1999 Story Record #6 “Dragon's Domain" (1976)
In the mid 1970s, POWER Records an imprint of Peter Pan Industries, long-time maker of records for children since the late 1940's, produced Story Records based on the UK television series SPACE:1999 which ran from 1975-1977. The first record set was a 12-inch 33-1/3 RPM LP record which included three different stories and was released in 1975. In 1976, four additional stories were released on LP for a total of seven total stories. That same year, two of the stories "Breakaway" and “Return to the Beginning" were released as a Book & Record set which was a 7 inch 45 rpm record and a read along comic book.
"Dragon's Domain" is Space: 1999 Story Record #6 and features a retelling of the 8th episode of Season One in which in 1996, Tony Cellini commanded a high-profile space mission which ended in disaster. The sole survivor, he told an outrageous tale of a spaceship graveyard and an alien 'dragon' which devoured his crew. Believed by no one, he was left a broken man. Five years later, the truth is revealed when the runaway Moon approaches the same deadly Sargasso in space.
