This song went to number 1 in the UK singles chart, the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and other charts around the world in 1964. It was written by Paul McCartney when he was just 16 years old, but later attributed to Lennon/McCartney.
Paul moved to London in 1963, and for a time lived with the actress Jane Asher, his then-girlfriend. He shared a room with Jane's brother Peter Asher, who asked Paul if he could record this song with his singing partner, Peter Waller, with whom he had a recording contract.
