Effectively, Darren Nicholls did what he wanted while he was in custody.
A focussed enquiry took place. A series of statements from protected witness’ who were serving alongside Nicholls came to light – they said Darren Nicholls openly told them he was going to lie in court and that he had been coached by police.
These statements were ignored by Essex police.
We were also informed that Darren Nicholls was given documents by police to forge his own evidence around cell site data.
None of this evidence came out until after the trial.
