China’s Deepest Canyon: A Hidden Tibetan World | Shangri-La (Episode 5)

In this episode, I travel deep into what many call China’s deepest canyon — a dramatic landscape found inside Balagezong, one of Shangri-La’s most remote and spectacular areas.

Towering cliffs, glacier-fed rivers, and small Tibetan villages make Balagezong feel like a world completely cut off from the rest of Yunnan. I spent the day hiking through the canyon, speaking with the people who live here, and experiencing a culture shaped by altitude, isolation, and centuries of tradition.

Balagezong is more than just scenery — it’s a living Tibetan community hidden inside one of China’s most breathtaking natural formations. This chapter follows my journey through those remote villages and the stories shared with me along the way.
