PPSSPP on Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics and i3 (4th gen) - Asphalt - Urban GT 2 (PSP)
Now well over 10 years old the i3 4150 and HD 4400 paired with 8 GB of RAM makes a very useful all around little workhorse. With an SSD and clean install of Windows 10 it is downright snappy.
Our test system is a Dell Inspiron 3647 SFF desktop. While small for a desktop and with few expansion options (there is barely enough room for a single slot GT 710 or GT 1030) it is quiet and energy efficient with built in wifi, bluetooth, an SD card reader and, of course, a DVD optical drive (which would have to come out if you wanted to add a second storage drive).
Our system as tested: i3 4150 (2c4t) at 3.5GHz
Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics (desktop)
8 GB DDR3 RAM @1600MHz
Kingston 256GB SSD (budget)
Windows 10 (64bit)
Gameplay was recorded internally using MSI Afterburner (absolutely no external components or peripherals were used). Video was edited and encoded on this same PC using Shotcut (free and open source). Exporting the video at 720p30fps (with transcoding from mkv to mp4) took about 1 minute per minute of video so... not too bad!
If I was looking for a super cheap older used laptop an i3 3rd gen (with HD 4000) or i3 4th gen (with HD 4400) with 6GB+ RAM would be near the top of the list. They are old enough to be super duper cheap but if equipped with a cheap SSD are nearly indistinguishable from newer laptops in day-to-day tasks. i3's are usually easy on the laptop's battery and often the battery can retain 2/3 of its original charge capacity after over a decade.
In summary, if you are set on getting a PC but NOT installing a graphics card (eg. a laptop or USFF desktop) then choose:
i3 4th gen (HD 4400) over i5 3rd gen (HD 3000)
i3 3rd gen (HD 4000) over i5 2nd gen F(HD 2500)
i3 3rd gen (HD 2500) over i5 2nd gen (HD 2000)
Etc, etc... You get the idea. If you want to game on an old laptop or PC with integrated HD graphics then get the one with the best HD graphics - even if it only has an i3. In my experience i3's and low-powered i5's ("U" or "T" series) make the best, longest lasting laptops.
AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BARE MINIMUM OF 6GB RAM! YOUR INTEL HD GRAPHICS IN THESE MODELS WILL USE ALMOST 2GB OF RAM AND YOU DO NOT WANT LESS THAN 4GB RAM LEFT OVER FOR SYSTEM PROCESSES AND PROGRAM EXECUTION - IT IS THE BARE MINIMUM!
Thanks For Watching!
