Born in the ninth century, he worked in the famous House of Wisdom in Baghdad, where scholars gathered knowledge from many civilizations and expanded upon it. Al-Khwarizmi became best known for his groundbreaking work in mathematics, especially his book on algebra, which introduced systematic methods for solving equations. In fact, the word “algebra” comes from the title of one of his most famous works, while the term “algorithm” is derived from the Latinized form of his name.
