Another Nail in My Heart – Squeeze - FRANKS BASS COVERS v2 #shorts
“Another Nail in My Heart"– Squeeze - Bass Cover (with Lyrics) FRANKS BASS COVERS
Released January 1980 from the album “Argybargy”
The Song
Written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook.
That’s odd:
Although the lyric throughout is:
“Another nail FOR my heart”; the song title is…Another Nail IN My Heart”
The song features marimba in its opening at the suggestion of newly acquired bassist John Bentley.
The song is notable for its guitar solo, which is performed after the first verse. Tilbrook said it took the entire afternoon in the studio to get his solo right.
Keyboardist Jools Holland's only contribution was the final piano arpeggio. In the official music video, he can be seen hauling his piano cross town while the band is already going, only to arrive at the studio just in time to make his 'performance'.
Squeeze performed the song at their concerts throughout the 1980s and 1990s. (I did get to see them in concert in NYC)
The Band
The group formed in Deptford, London, in 1974 and were inspired by 1960s rock bands The Kinks and The Beatles, and the songwriting partnership of Difford and Tilbrook has attracted comparisons to that of John Lennon and Paul McCartney,
Some other singles / popular tracks of theirs are "Cool for Cats", (the incredibly written) "Up the Junction" "Tempted", "Pulling Mussels (from the Shell)", “Black Coffee in Bed”.
Many bands and artists who would later achieve phenomenal success would begin their careers opening for Squeeze, including Dire Straits, The Jam, R.E.M., The Specials, & U2.
Bassist: John Bentley
Cover notes: it looks like I'm using a pic in some parts; it’s actually just my fingernail.
