How to Test the Strength of a Biofabric | Science Project
Biofabrics are derived from living organisms such as seaweed or bacteria and have been proposed as sustainable alternatives to conventional fabrics such as cotton or polyester. But how do these materials perform when it comes to their mechanical properties, such as strength? This video will show how you can conduct two materials tests (tension test and torsion tests) at home. How will your material perform? Complete written instructions, including more background information about biofabrics, are available on the Science Buddies website:
You can find more information on how to make biofabrics from seaweed and their recipes in this video: https://youtu.be/P8RtSQ9az2U
Written instructions are also available here: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project-ideas/GreenChem_p006/green-chemistry/alginate-seaweed-biofabrics
Science Buddies also hosts a library of instructions for over 1,500 other hands-on science projects, lesson plans, and fun activities for K-12 parents, students, and teachers! Visit us at http://www.sciencebuddies.org to learn more.
