An enjoyable, easy route for the novice off-road mountain biker. The video pays particular attention to the terrain to ensure potential riders can judge if it is suitable for their level of riding ability.
A basic map showing the route is available at the end of the video.

If you're looking for a scenic, fun-filled cycle route that offers just the right amount of challenge then this 12-mile e-MTB ride through the stunning Grizedale Forest in the Lake District is for you. It’s a perfect blend of off-road adventure, panoramic views, and an accessible route for novice cyclists ready to take on a little more than the usual flat terrain.
The ride kicks off just South of Satterthwaite and quickly enters Grizedale Forest know for its woodlands, sculptures, and peaceful trails. After a couple of miles the route takes you down the Parkamoor byway with breathtaking panoramic views of Coniston Water below and the mighty Coniston Old Man towering in the distance. The byway has a couple of rocky sections but nothing too extreme! Next, you’ll hop onto another off-road byway leading to High Ickenthwaite. The path here remains comfortably rugged but never too taxing, perfect for those still easing into more adventurous terrain. Before long, the route loops back to where you started, leaving you with that sense of accomplishment after a satisfying ride.
What makes this route so special is how seamlessly it blends the thrill of off-road cycling with the calm beauty of the Lake District. The route offers just enough challenge to make you feel accomplished without being overwhelming. As a novice cyclist, it's all about enjoying the ride rather than pushing yourself to the limit. The terrain is diverse, but it’s never so difficult that it takes away from the enjoyment of exploring such a beautiful area.
I've put together this ride and several others as I've found a distinct lack of detailed information on rideable off-road routes for those of us with mountain e-bikes (hardtail or full suspension) who want to enjoy an easier, but fun, ride.
The number of senior e-bike riders appears to be rapidly increasing and I'm hoping these routes will be useful to those visiting Cumbria and the Lake District and maybe even the local residents, like ourselves.
