2023-01-30 Alumni Winter Study: EPHS 130 - "Gym Bros & Cardio Bunnies: Constructing Gender and Body in the Gym and On the Field" with Holly Crane '12

Holly Crane is a coach and educator who has been working in the fitness and athletic industry for over a decade. Holly is the current Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at NYU. She holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Williams College and an MS in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. In addition to coaching, Holly also studies, teaches, and writes about athletics and fitness. She is particularly interested in the ways that cultural narratives about gender, bodies, and identity are created, reinforced, and sometimes contested within these spaces. In 2019, she developed and taught a Williams Winter Study class called “Gym Bros & Cardio Bunnies: Constructing Gender and Body in the Gym and on the Field.” She taught the class again in Winter Study 2022. Holly’s goal as an educator and practitioner is to help people open their eyes to the systems of power and inequality that operate in fitness and athletic contexts and the ways we can disrupt those systems.
