Persuasive Writing vs Informational Writing: What's the Difference
Persuasive Texts Mr G 12- 07 -2025
🗣️ Why Do We Learn to Write Persuasive Texts?
We learn to write persuasive texts because it's the skill we use to advocate for change, influence beliefs, and motivate action in others. It moves beyond simply informing a reader (informational text) to actively convincing them to agree with a point of view, adopt a position, or perform a specific task (like buying a product or voting for a policy).
1. 5 W Questions: Persuasive Texts
Question Answer
Who needs to write them? Everyone. Students write essays to argue a position; employees write memos to propose projects; consumers write reviews to recommend products; citizens write letters to support causes.
What is a persuasive text? A piece of writing whose primary purpose is to convince the reader to adopt the author's viewpoint, using arguments, evidence, appeals to emotion, and logic.
When are they used? Daily. They are used when arguing in favor of a new rule (policy papers), seeking funding (grant proposals), making a sale (advertisements), or changing public opinion (editorials).
Where do we find them? Everywhere. Advertisements, opinion pieces, political speeches, fundraising letters, movie reviews, and academic argument essays.
Why do we write them? To influence or motivate action. The goal is to change the reader's mind from one position to another using structured, reasoned argument.
