380 Final Sydney Schneider's Golden Opportunity

Schneider’s Golden Opportunity centers around an in-depth interview with Sydney herself, as well as her UNCW Soccer Head Coach Chris Neal, and her Jamaican Head Coach Hue Menzies. This is a spotlight feature that tells the story of how Sydney became involved in soccer as a young girl in Dayton,New Jersey, starting with her beginnings in recreation soccer. She then dives into her start with the Jamaican youth teams at the age of sixteen, though she initially declined the first invitation to play with the country. The interview with her Jamaican coach describes what that process was like for Sydney and the reaction from her teammates and the coaching staff once she was officially part of the team. UNCW coach Chris Neal elaborates on Sydney’s skill and overall contribution to the college team. Neal also gives us an explanation about what her participation in the most recent Women’s World Cup meant to her teammates, the school, and coach Neal as well. The feature also shows several highlights of Sydney in action as a goalkeeper for both the Seahawks and the Jamaican Women’s national team. The purpose of this feature is to shine a light on Sydney as a soccer player that has now reached a level of stardom very rarely seen from an athlete here at UNCW. Schneider’s Golden Opportunity will provide a backstory to the events of her life that have occurred on and off the soccer field, with a brief description from her on what her future may hold.
