Indian UPI Now ROCKING in PAKISTAN? #shorts
UPI, or Unified Payments Interface, is India’s homegrown digital payment system that allows people to transfer money instantly using their phones. It has become hugely popular within India and is now being taken to other countries. Recently, UPI has expanded its reach and is now accepted in eight countries around the world.
The countries where UPI is available are Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and most recently Qatar. This means that Indian travelers or people living abroad can use the same UPI apps they use in India, like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm, to make payments at shops, restaurants, or other merchants in these countries. For example, in Qatar, UPI payments can be made at duty-free shops and other places through a partnership with local banks.
This expansion is important because it makes life easier for Indians abroad. Instead of carrying cash, paying high foreign exchange fees, or depending only on cards, they can simply scan a QR code and pay directly from their Indian bank account. It also shows India’s growing influence in the digital payments world, as more countries are recognizing UPI as a secure and reliable system.
At the same time, there are challenges. For UPI to work smoothly in other countries, agreements need to be made with local banks, rules about currency conversion must be followed, and merchants have to be willing to accept it. Still, with each new country added, UPI is moving closer to becoming a truly global payment system, bringing convenience to millions of users.
