India-EU Trade, Security & Innovation Ties Strengthen After FTA Progress: MEA Official

In Rome, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George highlighted a major boost in India–EU relations following the conclusion of India–EU FTA negotiations earlier this year. He noted that both sides have set an ambitious target of €20 billion in bilateral trade by 2029, while encouraging private sector partnerships to build resilient global supply chains. The discussions also strongly condemned terrorism and violent extremism, including cross-border terrorism. Cooperation in technology and innovation was expanded through an MoU on critical minerals and plans for an innovation centre in India. The talks further deepened cultural, educational, and people-to-people ties, signalling a broader strategic convergence between India and the European Union across economic, security, and technological domains.
