The Inflation Number Wall Street Missed: AI Boards Up 156%

Wholesale inflation just hit 6% and everyone blamed oil. They missed the number buried 8 layers deep in the April PPI report.

Printed circuit assemblies — the green boards inside every AI server — are up 156.5% year-over-year. Microsoft's CFO confirmed $25 billion of their record $190B capex is pure component price inflation, not extra capacity. Meta added another $10 billion for the same reason.

Then Friday night, Samsung's union walked away from the table. An 18-day strike could begin Thursday. Samsung is the world's #1 memory maker — and DRAM prices already jumped 95% in a single quarter.

This is the second engine of inflation. The one the Fed can't fix with rates.
