Although the genre existed before him, Mozart was the first to elevate the piano concerto to a high art form. Beethoven would soon prove to be his heir, developing the form and laying the groundwork for the great Romantic composers of piano concertos who would stand on the shoulders of both giants.

Drawing on his more than four decades of experience studying and performing concertos, Jon Kimura Parker charts some key aspects of the form's evolution from Mozart to Beethoven.

See the full 50-minute interview, including Parker's exploration of Brahms, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev's contribution to the genre!
