How to Touch Up a Tesla Model Y Shasta White Pear Tricoat
Working on a 2021 Tesla Model Y in Shasta White Pearl is a Tricoat color. Tricoat means there, the basecoat and the midcoat. The basescoat is white, and the midcoat is clear with some pearl in it. Applying both the base and midcoat is how you achieve that finish. The clearcoat is the last step. Today I am going to touch up the front bumper and curb rash on one of the wheels.
We have a tiny Stone chip here. First, clean it with wax and grease remover. I am using a touch up pen. The tip of the touch up pen is very fine, so all you need is to dab a small dot. Going to let that dry. Probably do one more coat, and then move to the midcoat.
Now I am going to apply the Shasta White midcoat. The midcoat is a pearl. It looks mostly clear, but it does contain some pearlescent you see on the rest of the car. Do it just like you apply at the basecoat. Dabbed it on the little spot, let it dry.
The final step here, I just did one coat of the basecoat one coat of midcoat. This tiny little chip, try not to put too much paint. I am going to do one coat of clearcoat. You may need to add two to three coats of base or midcoat if the scratch is deeper, in this case, one for each work. Let it dry and wait for 24-48 hours for it to dry and polish or wax.
In this project, we used the Tricoat color. We used the touch up pen of the basecoat or touch up pen of the midcoat and the clearcoat. We also used the wax and grease remover.
Here we have some curb rash on the wheel. This type of damange happens a lot in the city. We have all the Tesla wheel and hubcap colors. In this case, I am going to pop the hubcap off and work on the scrape separately. I am just going to touch up this wheel lightly. There are various stages of repair that can be done, but we're just going to put some silver touch up paint on their clearcoat for this video.
Silver color tends to look a little bit blue before they dry, but it will turn very silver as it dries it.
All right I will let that dry add another coat of silver. Apply the clearcoat. These wheels have a glossy finish. We have all the appropriate matte finishes for all the Tesla wheels and order from us. If you order from us, we will send you the correct clearcoat for your project. Most of them are glossy, besides the larger matte black wheel.
Okay, so we finish up the second coat of clearcoat. It looks very nice. If you look closely, you can still see the scratches. From a few feet back, you did not notice the scratch anymore, and it looks good.
After taking the hubcap off, and took a look. I realized that the scratches are tiny. We will use the touch up pen.
Let's put the hubcap back. A little tip: make sure you align this recess with the valve stem; otherwise he will not snap on properly. Be careful you don't fold over any of the clips in the back. It should just snap on. The hubcap is back on. If you look closely, you can still see where the damage was. The touch up paint matches the wheel color perfectly. The hubcap looks good.
This project is a quick repair. You can do this in 20 or 30 minutes in your driveway. If you stand a few feet back, you can hardly notice the scrapes, protecting the wheel from corrosion.
