The Fearless Marine of Iwo Jima: PFC Donald Ruhl | February 1945

In February 1945, after months of preparations, U.S. Marines invaded the Japanese-held island of Iwo Jima. For five weeks, the Marines were engaged in some of the heaviest fighting in USMC history, as they battled against a ruthless enemy for control over the island.
Among the Marines who landed on Iwo Jima was Private First Class Donald Ruhl, who on multiple occasions demonstrated supreme acts of gallantry that would ultimately see him awarded the Medal of Honor. This is his story.
