George Floyd protests: White House responds to questions regarding nationwide protests | FULL

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany held a briefing on Wednesday following President Trump's threat on Monday to deploy military forces to cities across the United States "if violence didn't stop."

McEnany said that U.S. Park police acted with the “appropriate level of force” when clearing out protesters at Lafayette Square on Monday. The President walked to St. John's Church across from Lafayette Square Monday evening, where he held up the Bible in front of photographers and protesters.

McEnany also said that U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper was still in his post, remarking "should the president lose faith we will all learn about that in the future.” There has been speculation that President Donald Trump wanted to remove the Pentagon chief over comments on current nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.

When asked if Trump was presently considering invoking the Insurrection Act in order to authorize the use of military force to quell the protests, McEnany said that "if needed," Trump will use it.

Floyd, who died from suffocation on Memorial Day after a police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck, has sparked protests that have now enveloped the U.S. and several international cities for days on end.
