Rob Van Dam won the WWE championship at ECW One Night Stand 2006. For years, many people said RVD was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time to never win a world championship, but it finally happened when RVD defeated John Cena inside the Manhattan Centre. The very next night, Rob Van Dam was made a dual champion when Paul Heyman gave him the ECW Championship, so RVD was on top of the wrestling world.

Weeks into his run at the top, Van Dam ran into some trouble while on the road. Hoping no one would learn about the incident, RVD went to the arena for a house show but it turned out RVD's road incident was already posted all over the media. Vince McMahon made the decision to strip RVD of both the ECW and WWE championships while also handing Van Dam a 30 day suspension. RVD wouldn't hold a world championship in WWE ever again.
