Pairing Work and Ham Radio. 900Mhz Yagi Test.
In an effort to enhance communications between perimeter gas monitors and a main Host computer receiving signals I wanted to try a 900Mhz yagi. The idea is to see if a 6 dBi gain yagi would extend both distance and signal quality to avoid dropouts of this gas monitoring data that occurs on emergency scenes we law enforcement or hazmat are monitoring toxic clouds or radiation on certain incidents.
Currently vertical omnidirectional antennas are used and it limits distance of signals where we have to add repeater units into the system to extend signals to the command post where they are being monitored. I obtained a 900Mhz yagi from a Ham Fest for $15 dollars and created a TNC to BNC cable to be used for this test.
The system is the Honeywell Safety Suite for First Responders and the meters are the AreaRae and a MultiRae multi gas detectors. The AreaRae is ISM 900Mhz and operates in the Ham Band of 33cm between 902Mhz-928Mhz. The MultiRae is a MESH network to the AreaRae within 400'.
Lets see if the yagi makes a difference.
