san francisco band THE BELLOWS was fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist james oakes (not to be confused with the historian). the band gigged around the bay area quite a lot in the late 90s and early 2000s, opening for the chameleons, the church, and similar bands. james self-released two bellows albums: outside (1998) and color the wheel (2002). the track "outside" features a cameo from mark burgess. riyl: the sundays, the chameleons, early church, early cure, aztec camera / roddy frame, chorus pedals, and pensive moods.
