Maker builds pocket computer inside Altoids tin with ESP32-S3

A hobbyist crammed an ESP32-S3, 2.3" TFT display, custom keyboard, and audio amp into an Altoids tin to create a fully functional retro computing device. The tin boots into a DOS-style shell and runs a variety of applications including classic game emulators, an MP3 player, video playback with dual-core rendering, internet radio streaming, and even AI chat via xAI's Grok API with synthesized speech. All the source code and build details are available on the creator's GitHub and Reddit posts.

Parts: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 N16R8 (240MHz dual-core, 16MB flash, 8MB PSRAM), 2.3" ILI9341 TFT (320×240 over SPI with async DMA), custom 30-key matrix keyboard, MAX98357A Class-D amp, small speaker, and SD card storage.
