I Dreamed a Dream - Waterloo Bridge (1940)
February 23, 2013.
After listening Anne Hathaway version of "I Dreamed a Dream" I got addicted to it! Couldn't stop listening!
Then I realized how it fits Myra, Vivien Leigh caracter in Waterloo Bridge.
00:28 - "You know, I have a feeling that from now on everything is going to take a turn for the better."
00:40 - Myra sees Roy's name in the list of "fallen oficers".
00:43 - "You don't have time for that." "For what?" "For hesitating. No more hesitating for you!" "No?" "No!" "But what am I going to do instead?" "Going get married."
01:14 - Myra is sad thinking that she might never see Roy again because he will go to war.
01:20 - "I'm not going to sink. Remember you once said that you want to live? Well, I want to live."
01:36 - "I'm going to be married."
02:04 - "Has that being someone else?" "You're naive."
02:09 - "You're dismissed."
02:13 - "I was hungry, I was poor, I thought Roy was dead but..." "Why didn't you tell him?" "I didn't have the courage."
02:59 - "Every parting from you is like a little eternity."
03:11 - "Roy, you are alive!"
03:20 - "Do you think you can get away with it?" "Do you mean deceiving him?"
03:25 - "I can't marry Roy!"
03:30 - "I got to go away, I... I must never see him again!"
04:09 - "I hope you get back safe and sound." "Thank you." "Here. Take this." "Your good luck charm!" "Perhaps it will bring you luck. I hope it does."
04:24 - "And you think you'll remember me now?" "I think so. For the rest of my life..."
For those who doesn't know or forgot the plot:
Myra and Roy fell in love, but he has to go fight in the war. She got dismissed after Roy is gone. Then she starts having financial problems. One day, she reads in the newspaper that Roy is dead and gets sick and depressed. To pay her drugs, her friend prostitutes.
Then, Myra prostitutes too. Months later, Myra meet Roy in the station and discovers he was alive. She decided she would try to live and forget about the hard days she had. She was happy with Roy and they were about to get married. But she couldn't live deceiving him. Then she run away and suicided.
a "little" depressing, but I love this movie anyway.
