'Highlanders Day' marked by Pipe Major Grant of The Highlanders 4 SCOTS at Craigellachie Bridge

HIGHLANDERS DAY - "Caber Feidh, Agus Hundeachd Agus Erract Gu Brath" (Seaforth and Gordons and Camerons forever.)

On 17th September in 1994 The Queens Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) and The Gordon Highlanders officially amalgamated together at Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh. The new Regiment they were to form was named ‘The Highlanders’ (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).

The Highlanders legacy and uniform is proudly carried on by the Pipes and Drums. In this video Pipe Major Grant of 4 SCOTS is at Craigellachie Bridge in Moray, Scotland, where the Queen’s Own and Gordons met as a sign of unity 3 days prior to the official amalgamation. He plays The Highlanders Regimental quick march ‘The Wee Highland Laddie’. Happy Highlanders Day to all associated with The Highlanders and 4 SCOTS!

The Highlanders were amalgamated again 12 years later with the remainder of the Scottish infantry Regiments to form ‘The Royal Regiment of Scotland’. Within the new Regiment, The Highlanders became the 4th Battalion (4 SCOTS). 4 SCOTS are fiercely proud of their heritage and history as Highlanders and recognise the 17th of September every year as Highlanders Day.

The end of the video shows P.M. Grant at Fochabers, where a memorial has been built to remember the soldiers who served in The Highlanders. Designed by Jason Sweeney, the stainless steel sculpture is based on the regimental cap badge, which had a stag’s head, thistle and crown.
