I learned on a wooden board from Walmart as a kid in my front yard whenever it would rain. With that being said, you're always better off talking to a local surf shop to pick a board that suits your needs. Most importantly, whatever board you have, I hope you have a good time!

Skimming is hard, but it's super fun. I'm going to keep practicing...maybe buy a higher quality used board, and see where that takes me.
