Vic Liberal Deputy ‘sick’ of being made to ‘feel guilty’ about celebrating Australia Day
Victorian Deputy Opposition Leader David Southwick is “sick” of being made to “feel guilty” for celebrating Australia Day.
Vandals have defaced two statues in Melbourne on the eve of Australia Day – hacking down a statue of Captain Cook in St Kilda and spray painting a Queen Victoria statue near the Botanical Gardens.
“I know we keep having this debate around Australia Day,” Mr Southwick told Sky News host Steve Price.
“If Labor wants to change Australia Day, then they should simply do so and say so, and not hide behind this kind of stuff.
“I am sick as a proud Australian of having made to feel guilty for celebrating our national day – it is a great day; we … all need to live together and celebrate what makes Australia great.”
