🇨🇳 "It’s Your LAST MEAL in CHINA, What Will You Pick?" (Frog, Snail, Ham, Carp, and More++)
The diversity of food in China is mind-boggling, and after this month-long trip its easy for me to say that "a year is not enough." Especially in Southern China where they love pickling, they love preserving, and are ALSO the ones who farm - you also have so many things fresh and healthy! and I still feel so lucky to be spending time here this year.
From GuangZhou in GuangDong, to Guilin in GuangXi, we are on a majestic flavor tour, and I can consider this trip a success if I simply leave YOU inspired at how big the food of this country of China (and how much you need to learn more for yourself if you LOVE authentic Chinese food :) ).
Not that Chinese food abroad is "un-authentic," because as I learned most of all on this trip, the origins of these dishes are still so real and alive today! The coolest thing of all actually, for those who are so fortunate, would be to eat those dishes in your home, and then come to eat the same dishes here! Then you have the best of both worlds! What I do want to say to you here, as our 5th trip to China (of many many more) draws to a close, is that when you cultivate the attitude of "there's so much to look forward to abroad, but there's ALSO so much to appreciate right here at home!" then you have found just one of life's secrets, and for me that's one of the deep reasons that I appreciate our human need for food so incredibly much.
