Night Walk in Nanjing, China's Capital of 6 Ancient Dynasties | 4K HDR | 南京

In a city experiencing rapid development, most of Nanjing's old architecture is being torn down. However, in southern Nanjing-the root of Nanjing-some older buildings remain scattered. Local families knew each other intimately, speak the most authentic Nanjing dialect, have the best street snacks and know the best old Nanjing tales.

Lao Men Dong is the core of southern Nanjing. Like Xintiandi in Shanghai, it is one of the city's most successful urban restoration projects. On the ground floor of former residential buildings, you will find lots of tea houses, local venders, design shops, folk artists, boutique hotels, bars, international restaurants and old former residences of celebrities.

A museum complex locates here as well which is redeveloped from former Nanjing Colorful Fabric Factory. It includes Nanjing Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Jinling Art Museum, and Museum of Southern Nanjing Memory, where you can better understand Nanjing local culture.

Today, Laomendong has become a famous historical and cultural block in Nanjing. It starts from Changle Road in the south, reaches the Ming Dynasty City Wall in the south, and extends to Jiangning Road in the east. This area covers an area of about 700,000 square meters totally.

On the principle of preserving the historical buildings and cultural relics, some old factory houses were transformed into Nanjing painting and calligraphy academy, Jinling art museum, etc. The traditional Chinese wooden buildings and Ma Tau walls were reconstructed in accordance with traditional styles, in order to restore the original appearance of the old town.

Jingling engraving scripture, Nanjing Baiju Opera, Deyun Society, and such folk crafts including hand-made kites, fabric painting, bamboo engraving, cutting paper and marionette are all available to see here. It still maintains the ancient architectural designs and the cobble stone streets.

Also, many traditional delicious snacks of Nanjing can be found here, such as Meihuagao dessert, Ice Douhua, soup bun, Nanjing duck and sour cream.

In the evening, various kinds of lanterns light up the old block, making it a peaceful and harmonious destination.

Nanjing, capital of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, is roughly 300km up the Yangtze River from the city of Shanghai.

It was the national capital during part of the Ming dynasty. Many monuments and landmarks remain, including Zhonghua Gate (Gate of China), a preserved 14th-century section of the massive wall that contained the old city’s southern entrance.

Nanjing means "southern capital" (versus Beijing meaning "northern capital".)

It is a renowned historical and cultural city and was the capital of several dynasties over the course of Chinese history. It has many historical sites including Ming tombs that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

With a current urban population of approximately 9 million people, Nanjing is an important centre for commerce and trade in Eastern China.

Nanjing has a humid subtropical climate, influenced by the East Asian Monsoon. It is one of the 3 members of China's Three Furnaces along with Wuhan and Chongqing, both of them known for their hot and muggy summers with Nanjing being no exception.

The average July temperature is 28.1°C (82.6°F). Daily highs usually surpass 32°C (90°F) which along with the the humidity (80%), can make the heat unbearable.

On the other hand, summers are sunnier than winters and all of precipitation (which is a lot due to the summer monsoon) falls as downpours leaving enough time for the sun to come out. 35°C (95°F) or above readings, usually occur sometimes but long hot periods are rare.
Once an imperial examination testing center for the entire Jiangsu region, this museum comprises a tiny fraction of the once-massive original buildings.

The rest of the site is a massive, labyrinthine market; a top tourist attraction and a place where you can get all your haggling out of your system.

Get your picture taken with the Confucius sculpture and grab some tea on one of the gondolas on the canal. On the southern side of town next to Zhonghua Gate and the Taiping Museum.

Qin Huai River, a branch of the great Yangtze River, is 110 kilometres (about 68 miles) in length and covers a drainage area of 2,631 square kilometres (about 1,016 square miles).

The river was originally called Huai River, and it is said that the river was channeled to the city of Nanjing during the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, so it was named Qin Huai River from then on. Qin Huai River is the largest river in the Nanjing City area and is the 'life blood' of the city.
