Questions
What are signs of diabetic toes?
A change in the color and temperature of your feet. Thickened, yellow toenails. Fungus infections such as athlete's foot between your toes. A blister, sore, ulcer, infected corn, or ingrown toenail.
What happens to your toenails when you have diabetes?
The first toenail change you'll notice in diabetic patients is likely to be discoloration. Most have some yellowing of the nails, though the shade and involvement can vary. Discoloring may start at the distal edge (tip) and run all the way to the root of the nail bed.
How do you treat diabetic toenails?
Medicines taken by mouth, such as terbinafine (Lamisil), cure fungal infections the majority of the time. Medicines applied directly to the nail as lacquer (such as amorolfine and ciclopiroxalamine), either in combination with the oral medicines, are also effective.
Why can you not cut a diabetics toenails?
Diabetes are more prone to infection, and fungi and bacteria can transfer from clipping or foot care tools to any open wounds.
