On August 31, 2020, a Virtual Overdose Awareness Day Vigil was held by Health Improvement Partnership of Santa Cruz County to honor the lives lost to overdose, and commit to raising awareness about this public health crisis. Melissa Etheridge was a special guest.

To open the event, she sang “Precious Pain”. Later, she spoke about her own family’s experience. And she closed the event with her song “Pulse”.
