Orange is a city located in Orange County, California. It is approximately 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) north of the county seat, Santa Ana. Orange is unusual in this region because many of the homes in its Old Town District were built before 1920. While many other cities in the region demolished such houses in the 1960s, Orange decided to preserve them. The small city of Villa Park is surrounded by the city of Orange. The population was 138,669 as of 2019

Old Towne, Orange Historic District, a one-square-mile around the original plaza, contains many of the original structures built in the period after the city's incorporation. It is a vibrant commercial district, containing Orange County's oldest operating bank and the oldest operating soda fountain. The Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997,[13] and is the largest National Register District in California. The Old Towne Preservation Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the district.

Orange is unique among the region and the state in that it has the second-largest concentration of historic buildings. A list of all of the buildings and sites in Orange appears in the National Register of Historic Places. The Civic Center was designed by Welton Becket in 1963.

Repeatedly voted Orange County’s favorite downtown, the streets of Old Towne Orange are lined with antique and collectibles dealers, specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants. With its central Plaza Park, it has been the gathering place for Orange residents and visitors for more than a century. Old Towne Orange contains the largest Nationally Registered Historic District in California and its distinct look makes it a popular location for film and television production. Old Towne is also home to Chapman University, Orange City Hall, and the Orange Public Library & History Center, and is easily accessible from the Orange Metrolink Station or the 22, 57, 55, and 5 Freeways.

Chapman University is a private university in Orange, California. Chapman University offers 110 areas of study (49 majors and 61 minors), and encompasses ten schools and colleges on campus, including Fowler School of Engineering, Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Fowler School of Law, and Schmid College of Science and Technology. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity
Founded as Hesperian College, in Woodland, California, the school began classes on March 4, 1861. Its opening was timed to coincide with the hour of Abraham Lincoln's first inauguration. Hesperian admitted students regardless of sex or race.

In 1920, the assets of Hesperian College were absorbed by California Christian College,[a] which held classes in downtown Los Angeles. In 1934, the school was renamed Chapman College,[9] after the chairman of its board of trustees (and primary benefactor), C. C. Chapman. In 1954, Chapman College moved to its present campus in the city of Orange on the site formerly occupied by Orange High School, which relocated to a nearby campus.

Chapman established a Residence Education Center Program to serve military personnel in 1958. This evolved into Brandman University.

Chapman College became Chapman University in 1991. In that year, Dr. James L. Doti became president of Chapman University.

Chapman University is a private institution that was founded in 1861. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,505, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 90 acres. It utilizes a 4-1-4-based academic calendar. Chapman University's ranking in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #124. Its tuition and fees are $54,924.
