How to Draw Snake from the Gruffalo - Easy drawing tutorial | Colour Wheel Arts

In this series of videos you will learn to draw animals using soft toys based on the fabulous series of Gruffalo stories, by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Here is Snake, check my channel for the rest of the characters from the Gruffalo and Gruffalo's Child.

Soft toys are great for learning to draw animals from. They share the features of live animals, but in simplified versions. The stitch lines can also help see the shapes more clearly. And best of all, they are very good at sitting still!

Using this video to learn or teach drawing:
* Before starting take a little time to look at the original image (photo in the opening credits of the video, or use the download link below for all the Gruffalo characters)
* Look carefully and notice shapes. What shape is the nose? What shape are the eyes? What shape are the feet? Hint - Notice what you SEE, not what you think things should look like. For example, you may think that the eyes are round, but if you look carefully you will notice that they are more of an oval or semi-circle.
* Play the video and draw along with me. By following along and copying my drawing you will notice the shapes and lines that the animal is made up from.
* Make a few versions. By practicing you will improve your drawing.
* Have a go with other soft toys or real animals too.

Remember, there is no "wrong" way to draw, just a learning process as you develop your style!

* Faber-Castell Colour Grip Markers - These have a great triangular shape and grippy dots which help little hands hold them comfortably and encourage a proper grip.
* Derwent Watercolour Pencils - These come in a fantastic variety of colours for subtle variations
* Cartridge paper or heavy weight printer paper, ideally at least 100gsm.
