This Sad, Modern Condition
Something has gone wrong in the modern world. According to the WHO, rates of depression have risen by more than 18 per cent since 2005. In Ontario, 34 per cent of high school students indicate moderate-to-serious levels of anxiety and depression. And earlier this year Britain created a minister of loneliness to help combat what Prime Minister Theresa May called this “sad reality of modern life.” So what has happened? According to evolutionary psychologists, part of the answer may lie in the prehistoric past. The Agenda looks at how the way humans evolved is out of sync with modern life
