Polymer Clay Tutorial 47: Earthy Pastel Polymer Clay Slabs
Hello Weekend Crafter!
For this tutorial, I will once again do three slabs with one color palette because I loved this color combination so much.
For materials, you will need a lot of gray granite clay, a clay blade, a rectangular cutter and your clay roller.
As my inspiration was a cobblestone path, I mixed all your colors with gray granite clay. As you can tell, most of the colors I chose are in brown hues, and I picked pink as my bright color to add contrast.
For the first slab, I roll out my base color which is white with gray granite into the number 3 setting. Then, I roll out each of the accent colors in the number 4 setting. You can go even thinner if you don’t want your slab to look so thick. Then, I get my rectangular cutter and cut rectangles into each color. After punching out all the rectangles, I lay them out into a loose herringbone pattern that we often see on parquet flooring. Parquet is a kind of flooring composed of blocks arranged in a geometric pattern. Once the entire slab is filled, roll it out to make the rectangles stick. You can also neaten the edges.
For the second design, let’s flatten out the first slab by rolling it out into the number 4 setting. Then, flatten out a slab into the number 4 setting as well and place the main slab on top of it. Pass this through the roller into the number 3 setting. And then add texturing details.
And for the third and final design, I use the same main slab, and rolled it out into the number 5 setting. And then, I tear the slab out into tiny pieces and place the pieces randomly onto a blank slab. This is definitely a good idea for scrap clay. Once you smoothen everything out using the pasta roller, you will get a very abstract piece. And then for additional interest, I placed some very thin pieces of gold foil. As I want to get the gold foil to have that cracked effect, I rolled it through the machine one last time.
By the way, I just want to thank everyone who watches my videos. I’m not a techie person so you don’t know how much it means to me when you like my videos or say they were helpful. I really, truly appreciate it.
Have a crafty weekend! Bye!
