Solo Atheon in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer - Solo Atheon, Time's Conflux in Destiny 2 - Solo Atheon D2 / Solo Vault of Glass Final Raid Boss Atheon Encounter in VoG Destiny 2. Just a quick video showing a solo clear of the final boss in VoG, Atheon. Details below.

First and foremost, full credit to VoteForShifu who was the first to get this done, along with baxlyy and d2_tea who helped develop the strategy and were all going for the world's first solo. VoteForShifu's video can be found here: https://youtu.be/AdWLiCnIU1I

As for my video and thoughts on this overall; funnily enough this was one of the worst attempts I've done for this, and it's the one that actually got it done. It couldn't have been any closer, and if that last GL shot didn't hit it was a wipe.

I only started putting in attempts about a week and a half ago, as before that I had no time to grind this out, because I had a lot to take care of IRL. But I wanted to make sure I at least had it done before the end of the season, so now that things have settled down I was able to put in the time to get it done.

It took me around 27 hours to get this done. I kept overall notes of my progression, so rather than explaining the strategy I'll just go over how I progressed through time and how each play session went.

1 hr - Picking up relic and finisher timing. I decided to go with delaying the shot on every relic pickup rather than just holding the shot, so I didn't have to think about anything else when Venus mid happened.
3 hrs - Witherhoard positioning and learning Oracles. Only hit 2 damage phases in this time, Oracles were awful.
2 hrs - No progress really, another 5 damage phases but everything was poor.
30 mins - As I wasn't making progress, I spent some time just getting teleported and seeing where the Gatekeeper was to get a better understanding, as I hit a wall.
2 hrs - First 30min no progress, after that I was much more consistent at hitting Gatekeeper suddenly, only about a third of those hitting damage phases though.
1 hr - Hitting damage phases every 3 attempts or so, at this point I didn't feel like there was a wall anymore and just needed to grind it.
30 mins - Hit 5 damage phases in a row (individual runs, not all in one), damage was poor due to bad relic pickup timing, best damage 2.05mill.
2 hrs - Damage phases more often, best was 2.8million, hidden left on Venus issues.
3 hrs - Regressed, not as many damage phases and missing Gatekeepers, got a run below half HP, and getting better with hidden lefts.
2 hrs - Still missing Gatekeepers but testing new line ups, no progress.
2 hrs - Hit first 4 phase in a row, 600k off as I missed a long-range hammer in third phase with otherwise near perfect damage.
2 hrs - Another 4 phase, 8.5 million but died half way through last phase to Harpy respawns. Hit 2 triples on Venus with hidden lefts.
5 hrs - Much the same, 3 phases twice but wiped twice to final Gatekeeper with good damage (fast finisher on one, centre Mars another).
15 mins - First damage attempt of the day and this was the video.

Overall it went around what I expected, a bit longer than I wanted but not too bad. I was a little annoyed after messing up the two 4 phases earlier on, but happy enough to get it done. I just wanted to make sure it was done before the end of the season, and to give myself more of a break before the new season.

I'd say for the first clear and the effort involved, it's definitely the most impressive solo feat in Destiny 2 to date. As for repeat clears and the actual difficulty of the challenge after it was figured out, I personally don't think it was as difficult as Solo Descent. Atheon is a final boss and Descent was just an encounter, so the exposure Descent got was far less than Atheon ever would, despite me personally thinking Descent was more difficult to complete. Either way, that's not to take away from the first clear in the slightest, and Atheon is a very difficult challenge that requires significant time investment, and another one off the list.

Lastly, gotta laugh about the shaky hands towards the end, I didn't want to mess this up again.
