Production Timelapse | Doneref Studios Website Theme

As soon as I discovered I was in charge of the new Doneref website's background music, a particular challenge popped in my mind: to produce it all in one take. And that's exactly what I did! (except minor post-feedback tweakings). Here is the timelapse I recorded for the occasion.

Some considerations I made after this experience:

- Commitment is the key to productivity. Bouncing every MIDI track to audio early on in the process forces you to pay more focus on the real-time performance and prevents from lingering on minor details for hours. And it keeps the CPU low.
- Presets are friends! When the clock ticks quickly, there's no shame in getting inspired by ready-made patches, even more so if used as starting points to get to the sounds you have in mind. Eventually, originality may just arise from a well managed mixture of pre-existing elements.
- Give each idea the space to breathe, then (just then) judge it. Let your creativity flow, even when you think something you came up with sounds silly in your mind: sometimes the greatst ideas come from embracing that inner silliness. Of course, context has always the last word and you may want to reverse your decision, but then muting a track is no big deal.
