Why China's Collapsing Birth Rate Could Reshape the Global IQ Landscape

China's total fertility rate has dropped to barely above one. That number has enormous consequences not just for population size but for the cognitive and economic capacity of the country over the next twenty to thirty years. A shrinking working age population supporting a rapidly growing retired population creates a dependency inversion that strains every system a society depends on. The wildcard is AI and robotics. If automation advances fast enough in that window the economic impact of having fewer working age people may look very different from historical precedent. But that is uncertain. What is not uncertain is that without serious intervention through family support programs and policies that make raising children financially viable China is heading toward a demographic and cognitive cliff that will be very difficult to reverse⁣
