Hoopoes on Naxos island, Spring 2023

Hoopoes (Upupa epops) are one of the most distinctive migratory birds that arrive on Naxos island during spring time. They spend a lot of time on the ground feeding on insects in the dirt around fields, orchards and coastal dunes. The Hoopoe looks like an Indian chief when its crown is raised.
The Hoopoe belongs to the protected avifauna species.
