The Heaviest Longbow 240 lb
240 Pounds @ 32 Inches is probably the heaviest English Longbow or Warbow for YouTube, maybe even Guinness world record for the bowmaker. (Around 109kg @ 81 cm)
Quad Lam bow - Made of Brazilian Ipe, American Hickory, more Amazonian Ipe and finally Japanese Bamboo (Glued with titebond). Buffalo Horn nocks. Much respect to the Bowyer archerybowman on Ebay.
Official Guinness World Record: Mark Stretton (UK) drew a longbow weighing 90 kg (200 lb) to the maximum draw on an arrow of 82.5 cm (32 ½ in) at the shooting grounds of The Bath Archers, Somerset, UK on 15 August 2004. The bow was made by Bickerstaffe Bows (UK), of yew wood, backed with hickory.
I am training in inspiration of ancient records of Manchu archers. At the moment I cannot buy an Asiatic style bow above 150lbs for a reasonable price so I need to train with English Longbows. Some bowyers wanted to charge me 6000 dollars to make a 200lb Manchu bow. Until I get sponsors, at the moment I have to train with English Longbows. Below are Ancient sources about Chinese draw weights:
"The champion in a 1728 contest between the one hundred top bowmen in the empire won one hundred taels when he hit the bulls-eye using an eighteen-strength bow an estimated drawing weight of almost 240 pounds!"
"A 1736 report found that of 3,200 troops at the Hangzhou garrison about 2,200 were able to draw bows of strengths six to ten [80-133], and 80 could handle bow strengths of eleven to thirteen [147-173 pounds]… …In comparison, the 500 troops at the small Dezhou garrison acquitted themselves with honor, all of them being able to take a five-strength bow [67 pounds], 203 a six-strength [80 pounds], 137 a seven strength [93 pounds], and 85 a ten-strength bow [133 pounds]."
