Coral bleaching events made worse by global warming, experts say
In April 2024, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) declared a global coral bleaching event – the fourth on record. Among the most affected areas was Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Skeptics on social media were quick to reject the role of global warming in triggering the event, but marine biologists told AFP that while corals can heal from bleaching events, their increasing intensity and frequency makes it harder for them to recover.
